Filmmaker Updates

Two films that swept awards at Hi 2006 have recently received Distribution. Oscar-nominated director Anthony Lover's "My Brother" stars Vanessa Williams and Nashawn Kearse, and received awards for best actor, actress and an Audience Award for Feature Narrative at the 2006 New York Premiere in Harlem. Bruce Willis and Queen Latifah present Matt Ruskin's "HipHop Project,” awarded Best Documentary last year 2006. "Variety's" John Anderson called the film "Irresistably uplifting. An emotional tidal flow." Click the titles for trailers and showtimes near you.

Also, Barry J. Hershey's "Casting About," which had its New York Premiere at Hi 2005, got picked up by Kino and is in theaters now. The Boston Phoenix said it eloquently "reveals the mystery, the vulnerability and the power of acting." Be sure to catch this original and compelling piece about those who dedicate their lives to making performance a larger-than-life experience.

And be sure to check out Javier Fesser's "Binta and the Great Idea," one of Hi's 2006 Best Shorts, which went on to take home an Oscar Nomination earlier this year. Amazing work to all our filmmakers, who are destined for continued success.
