Roger Guenveur Smith to be honored
at the 3rd Annual Renaissance Awards
Award winning actor ROGER GUENVEUR SMITH is currently
shooting the Rogue Pictures feature "Fighting"
for director Dito Montiel in the lead role of "Jack
Dancing", a suave and successful gambling
entrepreneur. Smith stars opposite Channing Tatum
and Academy Award nomineeTerrence Howard.
Smith is known for the Peabody Award winning adaptation
of his acclaimed Obie Award winning solo performance
"A Huey P. Newton Story" directed by
longtime collaborator Spike Lee, with whom he has
worked 8 times including the "Do the Right Thing",
"Malcolm X" and "He Got Game".
Roger will soon be seen opposite Denzel Washington
in the Universal release of Ridley Scott's "American
Gangster", their third time together onscreen.
In early 2008 he will be seen in the Fox release of
Bill Duke's "Cover". Roger appeared in "The
Take" with John Leguizamo, an official selection
of the Toronto Film Festival, 2008. Smith was also
a lead in Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney's HBO
series "K Street".
Smith's body of work also includes such classics
as "Deep Cover" for Bill Duke,"Abel
Ferrara's "King of New York" and "Final
Destination" for James Wong of "X Files".
Other film work includes RKO Pictures "Shade"
opposite Jamie Foxx, Gabriel Byrne, Sylvester Stallone
and Thandie Newton, and the New Line Cinema
hit "All About The Benjamins".

and Harlem?s own pioneering film and TV director/producer,
Neema Barnette(THE COSBY SHOW, GILMORE GIRLS, CIVIL
BRAND, 7th HEAVEN, DIAGNOSIS MURDER).
Past award recipients include Oscar award-winning
actress Susan Sarandon, Academy Award-nominated film
director, Mira Nair and prolific actor/director Mario
